* Five-time Olympic gold medal swimmer Aaron Peirsol is hosting his first water swimming benefit in Fort Myers on Saturday and Sunday.

“... Peirsol joined forces with Oceana to build a Web site, www.RacefortheOceans.org. The goal of the site is to cultivate a broader base of supporters for Oceana’s work among swimmers and swimming fans. Since the site was launched, he has raised more than $10,000 toward Oceana’s work to protect coral reefs, fight global warming, protect sea creatures and reduce unsustainable fishing. His next step is taking his campaign into open water.

Peirsol is inviting open swimmers of all ages to participate in a two-day event in Fort Myers Beach. The weekend will include a 500-yard junior swim for those 12 years old and younger, a 1K and 5K swim for Masters swimmers, an open water clinic and multiple in-ocean training sessions with Brooke Bennett, Rowdy Gaines and Peirsol.
