* from USA Swimming: Peirsol named honorary Honolulu lifeguard
* from ESPN: Honolulu puts Peirsol on lifeguard pedestal

“I have dedicated my life to promoting this and I now have that opportunity. I have been blessed and I want to share my experiences with as many swimmers as possible.”

HONOLULU—Three-time Olympic gold medalist Aaron Peirsol has always had a passion for the water. In fact, he’s an avid surfer, a well-accomplished bodysurfer and, of course, an Olympic swimmer.

This summer, Honolulu made Peirsol an honorary lifeguard for his dedication to water safety and responsible aquatic recreation.

Peirsol recently took part in the Waterman Challenge relay races during the Duke Kahanamoku Festival in Waikiki, and competed against some of Hawaii’s top lifeguards.

“I have always wanted swimming to have an ambassador to travel throughout the United States in places like Hawaii to excite swimmers, parents and the community in general about the great sports that involve water,” Peirsol said.

“I have dedicated my life to promoting this and I now have that opportunity. I have been blessed and I want to share my experiences with as many swimmers as possible.”

Over 150 kids take part in ‘Swim Like an Olympian’ benefit clinic

As it says on the Texas site, a photo gallery should be coming soon.

AUSTIN, Texas—The University of Texas men’s swimming team and Longhorn Olympic alumni combined efforts with Texas head coach Eddie Reese and junior Garrett Weber-Gale to host a benefit swimming clinic and autograph session on Saturday at the University of Texas Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center to benefit victims of the recent hurricane disasters.

The stroke clinic was for all interested swimmers ages eight and above, and able to swim the full length of the pool. Kids, parents and people of various ages joined in to take advantage of the unique opportunity to be coached, if only briefly, by Olympic champions and UT coach Reese.

The doors opened at 10:30 a.m. and the day concluded at 12:30 p.m. Over 150 people eagerly filled the pool, helping the team raise over $3,000 for a donation to the American Red Cross.

Also on hand were World Championships team members Weber-Gale and Matthew McGinnis and College World Games team members Michael Klueh and Dan Rohleder.

The cost of the clinic was $20 per person, with checks made payable to “American Red Cross.” All proceeds directly benefitted the hurricane victims via the Red Cross.

Peirsol to Conduct Clinic at Home of Bozeman Masters—October 1, 2005

BOZEMAN, Montana, October 1. AARON Peirsol, the world’s premier backstroker, and Bob Bruce, a U.S. Masters Coach of the Year, will lead the USMS Nike Swim Clinic on Saturday, October 15 at the Bozeman Swim Center in Montana. The clinic is scheduled as a four-hour program that will include in-water instruction on stroke technique from Peirsol.

“The clinic is an opportunity of a lifetime,” Peirsol said. “I have always wanted swimming to have an ambassador to travel throughout the United States and excite swimmers, and the community in general, about the great sport that I have dedicated my life to promoting. Now I have that opportunity through Nike’s partnership with groups like the Bozeman Masters.”

A California native, Peirsol is coming off a summer in which he won three gold medals at the World Championships in Montreal. Peirsol took top honors in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, breaking the world record in the longer distance, and also won gold as a member of the United States 400 medley relay. Earlier in the year, Peirsol broke the world record in the 100 back. A seven-time world champion, Peirsol won three gold medals at the Athens Olympics.

Bob Bruce, the 2003 United States Masters Swimming Coach of the Year, tops off the USMS NIKE Swim Clinic weekend with a six-hour clinic program on Sunday morning, October 16 at the Bozeman Swim Center. Bruce will present the hydrodynamics and biomechanics of swimming and provide individual underwater videotaping and group analysis of two of each attendee’s favorite swim strokes.

Bruce was the USA Head Coach for the FINA Masters World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2002 and Riccione, Italy in 2004. Currently, Bruce serves as the Head Coach of the USMS High Altitude Training Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and Chair of the USMS Coaches Committee.

Participants may enter the USMS NIKE Swim Clinic programs as an active “in water” swimmer to obtain the full benefit of this swim technique instruction or as an “on deck” spectator in the gallery. A dinner buffet for clinic swimmers, spectators, spouses or dates is planned for Saturday night.

A full “in water” swimmer package for this adult mini-swim camp weekend, including both clinic programs and dinner buffet, is available for $70 for Bozeman Masters Swim Team members and $85 for nonmembers before October 1, and thereafter for $105. A corresponding “on deck” spectator package is available for $45.

The clinic programs and dinner may be purchased as a package or separately, starting as low as $10 for “on deck” spectator seating on Sunday. Participants must be eighteen years of age or older. Reservations are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

For additional information and an official USMS NIKE Swim Clinic entry form, please contact Bozeman Masters Coach Suzi Thompson at 406-586-9799 and suzithompson@mailblocks.com or Sherri Pearson at 406-585-1753 or sw1078@hotmail.com .

9/30/2005 - News

Sad news: MPO will be shut down tomorrow. There will be a newsletter in the future, so go over to MPO and bookmark the link listed there. So after three years the swim fan community will be losing a great site and member. And the way it looks like right now, APO will only exist until early December.

ETA: I talked to several people about this whole matter. I am still not sure how I will decide but keeping the site/gallery in an altered way is an option I am still thinking about.
Thanks t the commenters again, I appreciate the support.
Thank you.
And I would appreciate it more if no argument would be started, since it is not really good to make a judgement without having seen the site before.

Aaron was selected into USA Swimming’s National A Team 2006

USA Swimming releases National Team lists

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming has announced the members of the 2005-06 National A and B Teams, selected based on swimmers’ performances in 2005.

“The National A and B teams recognize athletes who have performed at the highest level on the world stage each year,” said Everett Uchiyama, USA Swimming National Team Director. “Their performances are among many great accomplishments that allow us to target support to athletes and coaches who continue our long standing tradition of being the number one swimming nation in the world.”

National A Team members are those swimmers who have achieved a top-eight FINA world ranking in individual Olympic events during the traditional long course season, Jan. 1-Sept. 1, 2005. National B Team members are ranked in the top 16. Athletes are instated on the team for one year.

Twenty-five members of the 2004 Olympic Team and 34 swimmers from the 2005 World Championships team earned 2005-06 National Team honors.

9/29/2005 - Thank you and News

First Thank you to everyone who left comments on the last post. I appreciate the support very much and it is good to see that the site is still appreciated by fans after 3 years. I still haven’t decided how and if I will go on putting my work, time and money into a site with almost up to nothing on it. The domain is still valid for a few more months and I think I will keep on going at least this long, after that I don’t know. As I said before right now I can’t really deal with everything but I will eventually decide what I want to do.

Until then on to the real News:
